Author Sheila Helliwell
Sheila Helliwell created countless children's stories for her own children, it is only recently that she decided to publish her work after realising just how much other children her stories. It all started when she began writing bedtime stories for her own children, Sheila realised the story content made a big difference to children's enjoyment and learning and carefully wrote her stories to help her own children's development. As Sheila's children grew older so did their appetite for more interesting fun stories, this provided the spark that led to the creation of the Magic Murphy adventures, The Murphy Stories, each sufficient to fill a children's story book. Sheila is a British citizen, residing in Larnaca, Cyprus where she continues to write and work through the internet. Sheila's children are now grown up with successful careers in different parts of the world with three grandchildren.
Sheila's first work to be published is book one of The Murphy Stoy Series - Hoonraki Moon. The Murphy Stories recount three children's adventures after moving into an old rundown house where they are amazed to meet Magic Murphy, a nine-inch tall leprechaun, living in an old oak tree at the bottom of their garden. Making the "Real World Stand Still" is the Sunday Mail's take on Hoonraki Moon in 2007, see following extracted from the Sunday Mail's Book Review page.
The exciting and playful characters within Sheila's stories provide an outstanding stimulus for developing children's imagination. The following full page image is extracted from Sheila's short story The Hippo in the Pantry (Children's Short Stories Book 1)
Sheila believes introducing young children to the enjoyment of reading at an early age is crucial in their emotional and cognitive development. Ensuring her books include captivating full page illustrations specially created by leading children's illustrators such as Maciej Zajac and others, helps stimulate children's imaginations and their interest in reading. Following the success of The Murphy Stories Series, Sheila created Children's Short Stories Book 1 (ISBN: 978-0-9560331-0-9) which is a collection of her most popular short stories with stunning full colour illustrations from Maciej Zajac on every page (see above).
